ICD-10, How Do I Love Thee?
ICD-10, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
You deserve a poem, it’s Valentine’s Day
On the one hand, there’s ICD-9
(It’s dead to me and deserves no rhyme)
I love the need for better data and specificity
(But I don’t love the simplicity with which the government expects our complicity)
I love to ICD-10 Test at CMS’ behest. But surely they jest
(RAC Audits, MU 2 and the rest are the real pests that infest)
I love ICD-10.
(But I don’t love the how and when, due to delays that happen again and again.)
I love the SGR bill up on the hill
(But hope Congress sets aside their quill and stops ignoring the people’s will.)
I love payment that is value-based,
(But I don’t love CMS mandates that are “In your face!”)
I love the patter for much better data
(But dealing with vendors is like tea with the Mad Hatter)
Like Humpty dumpty up on the wall
All this nonsense means an inevitable fall
Docs ask, “Does this increase quality of care?”
The answer is “No,” so patients beware.
Nobody said that life would be fair
But why is listening to reason so rare?
Perhaps this isn’t a love poem at all
I’m fed up with Health Care’s “tangled string ball”
